Construction

Construction GRP
Underwater profile Long keel
Finish Paint finish

Heavy GRP layup built in 1976 by Alajuela Yacht Corp in California. This particular yacht was commissioned in 1977. 72 of these William Atkin / Colin Archer designed boats were built from 1977 through 1985.

Long full keel, heavy barn door style rudder and well protected propeller.

This boat’s gel coat has been painted with Awl Grip (both hull and deck) while touring Central America. Most of the exterior wood structural parts (bulwarks, winch bases, rudder cap) have been replaced with Honduran Mahogany. The samson post has been replaced with stainless steel. Much of the structure of the bow sprit has been rebuilt as well. The teak cap rail on the shear was re-installed and left natural. Cockpit teak is in good condition.

The fuel tanks are split with the main being 68 G and a 15 G day tank that feeds the diesel heat or can be directed towards the main engine. Nice compliment on an offshore boat.

Waterline Boats / Boatshed does not independently verify capacities and measures which are reported from seller-provided information and/or literature.

Broker's Comments

4 VIRTUAL TOURS - 1 VIDEO - 123 PHOTOS - FULL SPECS & BROKER'S COMMENTS CAN BE VIEWED OF THIS ALAJUELA 38!

If you are dreaming of taking a sailboat offshore or doing a circumnavigation the seller reports this Alajuela 38 is turn key ready. Extensive refit and equipment upgrades since 2013 are all noted in the listing details.

The Alajuela 38 is an excellent and proven bluewater cruiser, this one having spent most of the past 25 years in exotic places like Cartagena, Cuba and twice through the Panama Canal, Mexico, Hawaii and BC Canada. The interior feels large and has been used as a live aboard for a couple.

Similar in style to the Tayana 37 or the Union 36 this boat is about 5-6000 pounds heavier. Her underwater profile, canoe stern and kind motion in a seaway has kept her owner comfortable and safe through many thousands of miles of ocean travel.

Very reasonably priced current moorage in Port Orchard is transferable.
